Mission:
Science : Dino Dig
Veteran
science educator and adventurer Marcus Eriksen hosts
the program. Marcus has been excavating dinosaur bones
for
over 10 years. His mission for this engaging program
is to find, excavate, and prepare a Triceratops skeleton
in
a record-breaking three months for a local exhibit in
Lusk, Wyoming. This exhibit is unique in that none of
the dinosaurs
excavated in this fossil-rich county have ever been displayed
in the county. Instead, museums all around the world
are now the homes of these prehistoric bones.
This video field
trip takes viewers to a real-life dinosaur dig in the
grasslands of Wyoming. Perfect for 4th grade students and
suitable
for grades 2 through 6, this video explores the science
of paleontology. It tells the story of how dinosaur
bones are found, unearthed, transported to a museum, and
prepared
for display. Along the way students learn important
vocabulary terms such as fossil, paleontologist,
and iridium.
Also,
they are introduced to a team of expert paleontologists
who help explain the mysteries of dinosaurs.
